New Year's Day… now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual.
- Mark Twain
I've never been huge on the New Year's Resolution thing. That's probably indicative of my ability to commit (and by "ability", I mean "inability"), but whatever.
I'm going to try it this year. And I'm going to make some small, and some big, so that I have some shot in hell of either keeping them (small ones) or the opportunity to feel ridiculously proud of myself should one of the big ones actually stay in tact and be accomplished.
And so, a work in progress - I have to imagine that this type of thing comes to you at random when presented with situations that are less than satisfactory due to some sort of error on your part. Stay tuned for additions throughout the week as I make my slow and painful return to the productive, working world.
The Smalls:
- Figure out the whole jewelry thing, and start wearing it.
- Dress up for work 2 days per week in January. Up it to 3 days per week in February.
- Do not wear flip flops to work if the low is below 60 degrees.
- Buy shoes so that you don't have to wear flip flops in the circumstances outlined above. In particular, buy a pair of black boots, a pair of brown heels, and a pair of black heels.
- Clean your room every other day, even if it's just a quick swiping up of laundry so that you can see the floor.
- Finish unpacking your boxes. Do this by the end of the week.
- Finish unpacking your boxes at work. Do this by the end of the day.
- Only eat fast food twice per month, including those drunk taquito and Jack in the Box trips.
- Keep your desk clean at work - at the end of every day, throw away trash, organize papers, and file things into their respective folders.
- Do not avoid your voicemail.
The Bigs:
- Work out for at least 1 hour 4 times per week.
- Do boot camp again if the timing works out.
- Actually implement the savings plan.
- Plan meals ahead of time, and plan healthy ones.
- Go through with the plan.
- Stop biting your nails. For good.
- Take an actual vacation.
- Use up your PTO at work. For the first time ever.
- Limit yourself to only one weeknight per week involving drinks of the alcoholic variety (unless it's a special occasion) - and keep the total to 2 drinks (unless it's a special occasion).
We'll see how long this lasts.
